04/04/2012: More proof that Jeanne does exist!
Jeanne Paulus was on hand for the press conference when the Reds announced they had inked their franchise first baseman to a 10 year, $225 Million deal. Joey did thank his girlfriend during the presser and threw one joke at his long time partner:

“My girlfriend probably hopes this is a trend going forward that I’m more willing to make long-term commitments.”

Perfect way to deflect the engagement talk…. Well done, Joey!

Joey specifically thanked Jeanne by name for her continued support at the 2010 Baseball Writers’ Association of America annual gala.

Scott and Nikki have two kids together, son Finn born in 2007 and daughter Raine born in 2004. They spend time living in Indiana and Florida every offseason.

Scott and Nikki are involved with a number of charitable organizations. In 2010, they were honored with Baseball Wives Charitable Organization award for their work benefitting a number of causes, most notably for their work with local youth and work for Autism research.

Aroldis Chapman is quickly emerging as the one of the most feared late inning relievers in baseball, and it should come as no surprise that the formerly single Chapman may want to hook up with the occasional stripper. It’s pretty safe to assume that as fun as the relationship may have been, he wasn’t going to be prepared for this.

Aroldis Chapman has been dating Claudia Manrique since approximately April. Manrique is a 26 year old Colombian native who has since moved to Silver Springs, MD where she is working as a stripper. According to Chapman, Manrique would occasionally meet up with him in various cities the Reds were playing in, when she had an opportunity to travel. One of those times occurred in Pittsburgh on May 29, when Cincinnati started a 3 game series with the Pirates. Shortly after Chapman traveled to the park to put in his day’s work, Manrique was left alone in their hotel room.

Several guests staying on the same floor as Chapman and Manrique called hotel staff and police when they heard screaming coming from their room. When police arrived on the scene they discovered Manrique bound by cloth napkins. Manrique told police that a man knocked identifying himself as maintenance there to fix a toilet. When Manrique allowed him entry to the room, the man brandished a gun, and took jewelry, clothing, a computer, credit cards and ID cards.

As the Pittsburgh Post Gazette continued their investigation into the case, they learned that police were reviewing various discrepancies in her story. The most glaring issue surrounded a Louis Vuitton bag containing more than $200,000 of Chapman’s jewelry, which the robber demanded she turn over and caused him to demolish the room in an effort to find the bag. Police questioned her with how the man knew of the existence of such bag, and began looking further. Manrique was put through a polygraph test, which indicated she was not being truthful with her account. When confronted with this, she changed her story. According to the Post Gazette:

Ms. Manrique eventually changed her story, saying the robber first approached her at a CVS pharmacy and threatened to harm her friend in Silver Spring if she did not give him her room number. The man showed up a few hours later, and she let him in, fearing for her friend’s safety.

Things continue to get cloudy when considering some circumstantial evidence. According to Chapman, Manrique had been receiving calls throughout their stay in Pittsburgh demanding sums of money between $9,000 and $30,000 on a debt for helping her gain access to the country. Chapman also indicates that she was acting oddly during the trip and asked to book an earlier flight home.

An ex-boyfriend (whom she was dating immediately before Chapman) also alleges that Manrique recently stole $2,000 from him by accessing his online bank account. This same ex confirmed to WTAE in Pittsburgh that Manrique is currently married, though also indicates that she is only married for green card purposes. In what might be the most interesting twist of all: Manrique’s husband picked her up from the police station following questioning.

Every time I check the MLB standings I have to stop and shake my head. I feel like we’re all stuck in Bizarro World from the Seinfeld episode as right now Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Washington and Baltimore are all in the thick of things, and in fact would make the playoffs if they began today. Read that line one more time and you will understand why I’m shaking my head.

One of the big reasons Cinci is making a charge for it’s second division title in 3 years is Jay Bruce. Jay is in his 5th year with the team and is now a two time All Star (as well as being the only player I’d ever consider cheating on Buster Posey with in my fantasy baseball man love standings). Bruce was a high draft pick for the Reds back in 2005 and has so far lived up to the expectations. As consistent as Jay is on the field his personal life has been much the same. Jay Bruce is engaged to Hannah Eastham and has been with Jay for the better part of a decade. Both Jay and Hannah are from the Beaumont, TX area and have been dating since early in high school. Hannah followed Jay to Cincinnati when he got the call up to the big leagues and the couple got engaged in 2011. After the 2012 season, one which Jay hopes stretches into late October, the couple plans to marry. It looks like the wedding is planned for December 1 of 2012. We don’t know where Jay and Hannah plan on marrying but seeing as both are from Texas and the wedding is in December I think it is a safe bet to say this wedding with be a Texas affair.

The Cincinnati Reds have been winning all year long. Their offense has been clicking and pitching has performed above expectations, especially the bullpen. But what people often overlook in the home run crazed world is defense. A team’s defense up the middle is especially important, and that’s where rookie shortstop Zack Cozart has shined.

Zack Cozart’s wife Chelsea Cozart must be especially proud of him. She has been there every step of the way, watching him progress through the minors. When he made his debut last year, Chelsea flew up to Milwaukee with his family to catch the game. Judging by her Twitter page, she seems to watch most games actually, which even as a baseball fan I don’t think I’ve ever done for my hometown team. But when you have the “best husband in the world” (according to her Twitter account), you’ll do anything to support him it seems.

Zack and Chelsea appear to be your typical high school sweethearts. But baseball wasn’t always his true love. He was the starting QB for his high school team, but broke his wrist in practice and moved on from the sport. They both grew up in Tennessee and went on attend University of Mississippi. After graduating in 2007, Zack was drafted in the second round by the Reds. They were married a little over a year later on September 27, 2008. Right now the couple only has two dogs but plan on starting a family at some point.

For as consistent of a player that Ryan Ludwick is, he sure seems to switch team often. Just taking a guess here, but I’m sure that has to be pretty annoying. Apparently not if you’re Ryan Ludwick’s wife Joanie, as it seems like she relishes the task of finding new apartments.

Ludwick started his career in 2002 with Texas, before getting moved to Cleveland in 2003. After settling in with St. Louis, he started getting regular playing time in 2007 and blew up the next year with 37 bombs. Despite his emergence as every day player, he was traded two years later to San Diego in a 2010 deadline deal. I hope he didn’t blink, because the very next trade deadline, San Diego shipped him back across the country to Pittsburgh. He didn’t stick there, so Ludwick signed a one year deal with Cincinnati. Judging by his stats this year, there’s hope he might may not have to pack and leave… at least not right away.

Ludwick first met his wife in 4th grade. But this isn’t a story about childhood sweethearts. Both Ryan and Joanie continued on with their respective life’s until their paths crossed again after college. They were married in 2003 and built a home in Texas. They have one son, Stetson, who was born in 2008.

Even though it is still early in his career, Shin-Soo Choo is already one of the more successful players from South Korea. This is somewhat surprising as although we mostly hear about Japanese players, the South Koreans usually have a very good showing at the World Baseball Classic and Olympics. Choo will look to bounce back from an injury-filled 2012 season and be a catalyst for the powerful Cincinnati Reds offense.

Things have often happened quickly in Choo’s life. In 2000, before he even graduated high school in South Korea, the Seattle Mariners signed him. And then there’s the story about Shin-Soo Choo’s wife WonMi Ha Choo. They met in South Korea in 2004 and after just a few months of dating, she moved to the U.S. to be with him.

Choo is a very hard worker and can attribute his good work ethic to his father, who was a boxer. Allegedly part of Choo’s regular workout includes fingertip pushups to strengthen his wrists, which to me just sounds awful.

Shin-Soo and his wife Won now reside in Arizona and honestly, we really can’t figure why that is. The couple has two sons and daughter born in 2005, 2009 and 2011.

2012 was a huge year from Todd Frazier. This was the year he busted onto the Major League scene out of virtually nowhere to finish third in National League Rookie of the Year voting. Along the way he managed to save a man from choking to death, belted a home run without using his hands and earned his first trip to the postseason. But for Todd Frazier’s wife Jacqueline Frazier, December 14th was the most breathtaking day of 2012. This was the day she had been waiting for her whole life; her weeding day.

“Today is a magical day,” Jacqueline Frazier tweeted, “where I marry my Prince Charming – and have my dreams come true and my happily ever after- I love you Todd Brian.”

The couple was married in Todd Frazier’s hometown, Toms River New Jersey. Jacqueline Frazier is also from New Jersey. It seems the former Little League World Series star just can’t get away from New Jersey. In fact, Jackie Frazier (formerly Verdon) grew up just 20 miles away from Todd Frazier in Freehold, New Jersey.

Both attended Rutgers University as student-athletes. Jacquelyn was part of the gymnastic team and earned herself the EAGL All-Academic Team gymnastics honor back to back years from 2004 till 2008. Back in May 2006, when she was a sophomore, she was awarded the Most Improved Gymnast Award. She was also a member of the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches for Women Academic All-Americans in 2007.

After the wedding, Todd Frazier and Jacqueline Frazier moved into a house they built in … guess where? … that’s right, Toms River, NJ. Fans can still celebrate the couple’s marriage by viewing their wedding website. Congratulations Frazier’s!

Devin Mesoraco’s wife Kira Mesoraco was married in 2014 and steadily got used to not seeing Devin as they were dating. It must have become apparent to her that Devin appreciates being with his family and spending time together when he told MLB.com how nice it was to see everyone after being on the road and playing so much baseball. Devin said something to the effect of “sitting around the fire with family and drinking hot chocolate is one of his favorite things.” That’s a nice sentiment to hear if you’re stuck at home waiting for him.

She posted a Vine back in 2013 that detailed her process of gussying up to see Devin for the first time in a month. Devin Mesoraco’s wife used to be Kira DeChurch, and they were married sometime in 2014. You get the sense of how little athlete couples see each other from the video. Pretty much the entirety of her Vine account was just reposted comedy videos, albeit classic ones. She’s certainly got a good sense of humor.

The couple now have a dog named Finn that they paid a professional photographer to take an extensive number of shots of. On this lady’s portfolio website, there’s like two pictures of the couple with Finn, and then a solid dozen shots of the dog sitting around chewing on a tennis ball. Maybe the couple called it quits and Finn said, “Hang on, I’m not done here, but you two go on inside and relax.” The couple also got to ride in a parade last year when Devin was named an All-Star. It’s a distinct honor being in a parade as the girlfriend or wife of an athlete. It definitely boosts the value of the guy in a woman’s eyes when he’s literally on display in the back of an official Cincinatti Reds pickup truck.

Aroldis Chapman’s girlfriend Raidelmis Mendosa Santiestelas had a baby girl in 2009 right before Aroldis defected. Her name is Ashanti Brianna. I guess the couple figured why not throw in an extra name in case she wants to switch it up. You know, there’s an awful lot about this guy’s life to be talked about, and we’ll start slowly.

First off, some other websites (terrible ones that don’t do any research) have shown a picture of a white woman with brown hair and called her Aroldis’ girlfriend. I can testify that woman is not Aroldis Chapman’s girlfriend Raidelmis Mendosa Santiestelas. Did they really think her she was Cuban? I’m not sure what they thought, but Raidelmis looks very Cuban and has had to wait a long time to get access to Mr. Chapman and the US of A. Raidelmis told Aroldis that she didn’t think she’d ever see him again right before he defected, which in itself was a bit of an adventure. He was actually in Europe when he was making the move to defect and had been playing for a Cuban National team in some big European baseball tourney.

Anyway, there’s other things to cover about the chap. Let’s start with the absolutely insane story regarding this other chick named Claudia Manrique. Okay, this woman claims she was tied up in Aroldis Chapman’s hotel room (with napkins, mind you) and claimed she was Chapman’s girlfriend. Aroldis Chapman’s girlfriend Raidelmis Mendosa Santiestelas probably has a few thoughts on this, but those thoughts are hers and hers alone. This Claudia lady may or may not have had some special relations with Aroldis at one time, but I sincerely doubt the man tied her up with napkins. The other odd detail is Manrique’s husband came to pick her up at the police station after she was questioned for ten hours. Man, I can’t imagine how weird it must be to grow up in poor Cuba and then live in America as a star pitcher with Lamborghinis and women tying themselves up with napkins. What a trip!

Aroldis Chapman’s girlfriend Christina Barnea (often called Tina) is an ex-escort who became pregnant with Mr. Chapman’s baby very soon after meeting him. Now, I know you all might think that sounds like a bad start to a post, but you really never know. It could be that the couple are madly in love and have a great thing going. There’s no point in speculating. What I can tell you, though, is that the internet has lots of ill will towards this beautiful young woman. I’m not even going to get into what the chat forums think of her. Suffice to say the internet wouldn’t vote for her to win a Miss Congeniality Award.

One thing I’d like to talk about a little is an interesting post that Christina put up on her Instagram a litle over a month ago about her deceased brother, whom she extolled and mourned publicly for all to see. Aroldis Chapman’s girlfriend wrote: “I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about you, brother…I couldn’t help but to go in my phone and look at your pictures, play your funeral song and drop tears of sadness.” Let’s just say there are people who are extremely dubious about the nature of this post, and why she’d feel the need to share it with 4000 strangers.

It is indeed a curious projection of Aroldis Chapman’s girlfriend that she’s chosen to convey to the world, but that’s the nature of corporate ideology and the permeating effect it’s had on this thing we call social media. The picture of Christina and her dead brother are now the property of Instagram Inc., in fact. Anyway, Christina loves to post pictures of their cute little baby girl, Angelina, as well. They get to drive around in Aroldis’ Lamborghini and shop at very luxurious stores. Many of Christina’s posts are in Spanish, as she is a Latina. The two often take fun trips on the water in their boat. It looks like a very charmed life, if you go by the pictures. Here’s to hoping these two are enjoying themselves.

-Kiana’s resume as a model, and her to be released Playboy spread. Howard described that Kiana had “perfect nipples”
– They met at a Mercedes Benz dealership and were introduced by a mutual friend. After Kiana found out who Pete was, she asked him to make an appearance at her hair salon. They have been dating since that appearance.
-It took Pete a full month to get into bed with Kiana
– More graphic details included Pete’s size (big), whether they use condoms they don’t), how Pete is as a lover (apparently orally skilled and very unselfish), and grossly enough, where Pete finishes (jokingly said the wall behind their bed).
– They described the frequency of their sex life (multiple times a day when they are able to see each other, and also claimed that it once happened three times in one hour).

In the most uncomfortable part of the interview, Howard demanded that Pete pop the question to Kiana right then on the show. After artfully deflecting from and dodging the question, Pete ultimately declined, but not after Howard told Pete to be careful, because every man dreams of being with a woman like Kiana, but never gets it.

UPDATE 12/11/2014: Ever wonder about the emotions a baseball wife experiences during trade speculation? Ask Mat Latos’ wife Dallas Latos.

As Mat Latos was being dealt from Cincinnati to Miami during the 2014 Winter Meetings, Dallas Latos took to Twitter to express the anxiety that go into trade rumors. Some highlights included

Oh god Mat’s phone just rang. Heart Attack.

Listen, the last time Mat was traded we found out on SportsCenter. You guys might know before I do.

Literally just refreezing my Twitter feed to see if Mat is really REALLY traded. Hahahahahahaha

When Mat was ultimately dealt to the Marlins, Dallas expressed appreciation for it all being over, and wanted to clear the air.

You guys… I am not mad about going to Miami. I am not complaining. These things are just surreal. Especially when it all unfolds on Twitter.

Often times when we’re doing research, information on an athlete’s girlfriend or wife is limited to their name and maybe when they were married. Other times, like with Mat Latos’ wife Dallas, we’re blessed with a what’s what straight from the source.

Mat and Dallas were set up through a mutual friend. Dallas, as is abundantly clear from her blog, is an independent woman. This almost cost her a chance with Mat. However, similar to a pitcher grinding out a complete game, Mat kept asking their friend about Dallas despite her initial distance due to him being a baseball player (and her wanting to stay in the single life). After finally lamenting to a movie date following the 2009 season, Dallas knew almost immediately she had made the right decision.

Mat and Dallas became engaged in July 2010 and, on a whim, were married a few months later in October at the courthouse in her hometown. Initially meaning to keep it a secret, Mat accidently spilled the beans during an interview. On their one-year anniversary, both got matching tattoos that say “The only thing that matters at the end of the day is you and I.” Judging by their respective pictures, they are both big fans of ink.

As stated earlier, Dallas has been somewhat of an open book when it comes to her and Mat. She has a blog on MLB.com and also connects with fans using Twitter. Unfortunately the dark side of online messaging reared its ugly head earlier this year, forcing Dallas to take a short break from Twitter. And this is why we can’t have nice things, people. That wasn’t the only time she has been in the news though, also sparking a controversy retweeting a video of Jose Valverde’s alleged spitball, enlightening us on the supposed shadiness of autograph seekers and even creating a Reds drinking game. Personally, we can’t wait to see what’s next.

Adam Duvall’s girlfriend Michelle Carroll said yes to his marriage proposal on Thanksgiving of 2016. The couple got together long ago, according to a short post by Blog Red Machine where they mentioned the proposal. Since they know each other so well, they are ready to commit to starting a family. For now, however, they own a Labrador. Adam didn’t reveal the dog’s name, though, so I can’t tell you what they call him. I do know they decided to enroll him in two weeks of intensive obedience school though. It’s a good decision but it also requires consistency and discipline after the school ends.

One thing that confuses me about the engagement is the Cincinnati blog said they became engaged in Thanksgiving. However, Adam Duvall’s girlfriend showed off her ring on his social media in January of 2017. Since she set her own social media to private, I can’t tell you if she showed off the ring before January. However, she looks absolutely stunning in the dresses she wears when they attend events and charities. She always wears stylish threads. That theme extends to Halloween too. Michelle dressed up in a black costume with skull facepaint. Adam followed the pattern and did the same.

The couple visits New Mexico on occasion and hikes. Back in January of 2014, they went there and enjoyed some outdoor activities. They also traveled to Lake Tahoe around the same time period. Adam shared a majestic shot from the porch of the place they stayed. In the offseason, baseball players and their girlfriends make the most of their free time. This also includes travel to San Jose. Adam Duvall’s girlfriend and he attended their first hockey game ever back in 2014. They said they were instantly hooked. In fact, they joined other family members and all wore Sharks jerseys. Life is cracking right along for this couple!

Yasiel Puig’s girlfriend Andrea de la Torre is the mother of their sons.

Two boys in just about a years time in fact

Andrea gave birth to Daniel in early 2017.   He arrived a week earlier than expected, but she said the birth was basically a piece of cake. She introduced him to the public on social media and said she’d always protect him and love him. Andrea seems to love her new motherhood role. The couple went golfing in beautiful Thousand Oaks, California a a short week before she gave birth. At least, she attended the golf outing; I’m not sure she swung a lot of clubs.

In August of 2017, the couple held a gender reveal at Dodger Stadium later that summer.  Puig teed off on a smoke filled ball revealing the baby boy blue, to add a third kid to the lineup.

Yasiel has another son from a prior relationship.  In 2017, before the arrival of kiddo numero tres, he talked about his kids as motivation

My motivation is my new son — I already have a 3-year-old, Diego Alejandro — and now I have my baby boy Daniel Sebastián. But it’s not just my family.

Back to Yasiel Puig’s girlfriend & life before multiple kids!

In October of 2016, Yasiel Puig’s girlfriend accompanied him to the lovely island of Curecao for some rest and relaxation. The trip also served another purpose since it was a friend’s wedding. The couple own a German Shepherd named Duke whom Andrea occasionally posts pictures of. Another interesting picture Andrea posted in September of 2016 came from California. She visited some kind of sports memorabilia shop and held a signed Babe Ruth baseball from 1939. It wasn’t even in a plastic case! It was a cool little photo opportunity. This couple does a lot of cool stuff like that, and hopefully they will be able to continue to even with a young baby.

Around the same time as the baseball picture, the couple traveled to Catalina Island for a break. Yasiel Puig’s girlfriend thanked the company that flew them there. They used a helicopter for easy access. You’ve got to admit- that’s a classy way to travel. It’s also a classy move for Andrea to thank the guy who orchestrated the flight. They both love to travel around California, and Malibu is another favorite destination. Naturally, Andrea goes with Yasiel to all the gala events and charity events the Dodgers organization puts on. That also included the Blue Diamond Gala in June of 2016.
